Comfort straps are wider than the average straps and are usually padded or lined in order to help distribute the weight of the breast evenly and increase comfort.

If you are a fuller busted woman, then comfort straps are essential, especially if you have experienced shoulder or neck pain from theses straps digging into your shoulders. A contour bra has shaped cups that are always padded or lined. A contour bra will feature an under wire, because they offer a significant amount of coverage and control, and are a perfect choice for women that are seeking a sculpted silhouette under their clothes. Contour bras do not increase your bust size, but they will create a rounder and more symmetrical look.

A bra that is designed with modifiable and some times even detachable straps is known as a convertible bra. These are meant to be worn under halter, racer back, cross back, one shoulder, or low back clothing. A demi cup bra will offer minimal coverage for petite and average women and they will cover the nipple and approximately half of the breast.

A full cup bra completely covers most of the breast, and will offer more coverage and more support than a demi cup bra. A minimizer bra does just that, because it will minimize the bust by up to one cup size. The cups on this bra are machine molded. They mirror the woman's shape for a natural look under clothing. Molded bras are generally unlined and may either have soft cups or under wire. Padded bras have a padded lining in the cups. Graduated padding is thicker at the base of the cups and creates a natural looking silhouette and the appearance of increased cleavage.

Push up bras create the appearance of increased cleavage using angled cups, which generally have under wires and a variety of padding types. Seamless bras are a great choice for pairing with knitwear or jersey material, because they are essentially invisible under clothing. These may also be called t-shirt bras. A bra is considered seamless if it is constructed without seamed cups. There may be seams in other parts of the bra and still be considered seamless.

An under wire is a thin, flexible wire, which offers added support to the cups of some undergarments. Generally, there are two types of under wire, which include mesh and seamless. A mesh under wire is found in most under wire bras, while a seamless under wire is virtually invisible under clothing. For women whose cups runneth over, finding the right bra can be a daunting task. Thankfully, there are bra designers that focus exclusively on designing bras for full figured women.

Follow these recommended measurement guidelines to ensure a proper fit, but be sure to take all measurements while standing and wearing a bra. You may also want to enlist the help of a friend for the most accurate results. Start by measuring around your bust. Extend the measuring tape around your back and across the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the measuring tape around your back remains parallel to the floor, then measure the total number of inches and record it.

The next step is to measure above your bust. Extend the measuring tape around your back and under your arms, making sure that the tape remains parallel to the floor. With your arms down, place the tape just above your bust where your breast tissue starts, then measure the total number of inches and record it, which is your band size. To determine your bra size subtract the second measurement from the first measurement and the difference is your cup size.
